Tutoring During Covid-19/Coronavirus

COVID – 19 and our online platform

November 2020

To our Students and Parents:

As Canadian schools begin to open once again after last year’s full shutdown, we urge our students and families to continue to remain cautious and responsible.  Many provincial health ministries along with Health Canada are requesting parents to ask their children every day before school how they are feeling. No one who is feeling sick or showing COVID-19 symptoms should attend school.

For those who feel troubled about the current situation, rest assured there are new protocols in place this year at schools across Canada to help prevent another shutdown, even if there is another rise in positive cases.  In addition to safety protocols, many Canadian schools have implemented learning groups, ten-week course timelines, and online/distributed learning.  Although these measures are in place, there is no guarantee that all schools will remain open.

For over 21 years, Tutors on Call has been supporting Canadian students with quality, one-on-one in-person tutoring in the home.  As always, and especially during these times, the health and safety of our students, tutors, and their families is our utmost priority.  As a business, we are doing all we can to reduce the transmission of COVID-19, as we continue to deliver our quality brand of tutoring services to our students all across Canada.

For the 2020/2021 school year, Tutors on Call will continue to operate exclusively using our online platform.  Our tutors have experience teaching the provincial curriculum online.   Each of our tutors makes a connection with, and dials into the individual needs of each student in the online space.  Our free, intuitive platform allows the student and tutor to see and hear one another.  Our system also includes an interactive whiteboard, which allows the tutor and student to work on the screen together in realtime.  There are many benefits that have emerged since we rolled out our online platform full time.  We are able to match our students with a tutor in as little as 24 hours.  This is especially important now, as many students are in ten-week courses, and are moving through the material at a much quicker pace.  Furthermore, we are able to draw from a much larger pool of qualified tutors from across the province, not just those in your neighborhood.

I encourage all of you to remain informed, and to continue checking for updates from your local school district, municipality, Ministry of Health, Health Canada, and other trusted health authorities to keep you, your family, and your community in good health.

We eagerly await the time when the COVID-19 threat has been eliminated, and we can get back to our regular habits with much less concern.  In the meantime, Tutors on Call will continue to assist our students to achieve their academic goals while keeping everyone safe, and healthy.
