Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Who finds the students for the group tutoring program?
One parent is responsible for finding students who are at the same level, have similar academic needs and who have the same availability.
Who is responsible for communicating with the parents, teacher and Tutors on Call?
For all general information and organization of the lessons, all communication is done through the Parent Coordinator who is responsible for passing on the information to the other parents. If there are personal inquiries, individual parents may contact Tutors on Call or / and the teacher.
Does the Parent Coordinator get rewarded for their efforts in organizing the students and parents?
The child of the Parent Coordinator will receive one free lesson for each student they organize in the group.
Do all the students in the group need to be the same level?
All the lessons will be the same for all the students so all the students need to be at the same level.
Where does the lesson take place?
The parents decide on one location where all the lessons take place.
What is the minimum length of the lessons and the tutoring program?
The tutoring program is a minimum of 16 weeks and the lessons are 2 hours long.
What happens during the free consultation?
All of the parents and the students come to the free consultation at the home where the lessons would take place. The Educational Consultant will assess the academic needs and make suggestions for a tutoring program that would meet the needs of all the students.
What if one of the students can not come to a lesson? Do they still need to pay for the lesson?
If the parents agree to cancel the lesson for ALL the students, then the program would simply be extended by one week. If, however, the other students attend the lesson and one student is absent, they still need to pay for that lesson. They can collect their homework from one of the other students; have it emailed by the teacher or get their homework assignment during the following class. It is not, however, the responsibility of the teacher to spend extra time outside of the class to re-explain the lesson that the student missed.
What if one student comes late to the lesson or needs to leave early?
The lesson will still start and finish at the same time. It is each student’s responsibility to be there for the lesson at the appropriate time.
What if one student wants to cancel during the tutoring program?
The tutoring program will still continue with the other students but there will be a cancellation fee of $80.00 paid by the student’s parents.
What if one of the student’s availability changes and the lesson’s schedule needs to be changed?
Once the tutoring program’s schedule is confirmed, it is the parents’ responsibility to ensure that the student will continue to be available during those times. If it changes, the teacher may not be available at another time so another teacher may need to be found. If this is the case, there is a charge of $80.00.
What are the teacher’s qualifications?
All of our teachers have completed the professional teacher’s training program and are certified by the BC College of Teachers(BCCT). They all have experience in the Canadian classroom and speak with a Canadian accent.
How does the Monthly Progress Report help keep track of the student’s progress?
It will state what was taught in that month, the student’s progress and their assignment / test marks.
How can I get FREE lessons?
You will be given ONE FREE LESSON for EVERY student that you refer to Tutors on Call. Once they register for a tutoring program, we will send you a cheque for the amount of one lesson. Read more about our Referral Rewards Program.
What if I want to change the learning focus in the middle of the program?

What happens if the student needs to go on a trip for at least a week?
You can either arrange to have the assignments sent to the teacher via email (there would be an additional charge) or the program would be extended the applicable number of weeks.
How do I pay for the lessons?
You will pay for the tutoring program in three post-dated cheques after the trial lesson. These are mailed to Tutors on Call with the contract. They must be received before the student can begin the tutoring lessons.
Do I get to choose the teacher?
Yes. The teacher is matched with the students according to their academic needs. There is a trial lesson where the tutor, students and parents meet. During this time it is decided as to whether it is a good match. If not, another tutor is found for the students.
