>Our Tutoring Philosophy
In today's school system, many children are not getting the basic skills that they need to succeed. The classroom includes children who are at extremely different academic levels, which makes it difficult for them to be academically successful. Furthermore, due to the marking system and lesson development that is not standardized, many children are 'slipping through the cracks.' Furthermore, many of the ESL students come to Canada with little or no understanding of how to write a story, essay, research report, novel study etc… despite their overall understanding of the English language. We strive to inspire students to be independent, passionate about learning, confident and responsible.
Independence: We teach students the skills so they can complete future assignments without our help. We strongly encourage students to self-correct and understand why something is wrong. We do not focus on correcting their work for them but ask them to read out their own work to find their own mistakes. This way they can improve rather than depend on someone else to correct their work for them.
Passion: We want our students to feel excited about learning by seeing how excited we are about the world of learning. We are there to be positive role models.
Confidence: We strive to instil confidence by teaching our students practical skills that they can easily use in the classroom. We want them to recognize and utilize specific tips, patterns or steps to complete an assignment.
Responsibility: We lead our students to become responsible learners and citizens. We help them to mature, and assist them to be responsible and to feel good about what they are doing. We use positive reinforcement, and we work with them to set goals and build a relationship built on mutual respect
Inspiration: We believe that great teachers inspire their students to learn and succeed!
Caring Relationships: At Tutors On Call, we work at getting to know our clients. We are interested in their situation, their names, their concerns, their interests etc… We make our best effort to make our students and parents feel listened to and understood.
